Mariah Carey announces 'Glitter' 25th anniversary reissue, shares reimagined "Didn't Mean to Turn You On"

Mariah Carey is giving Glitter the celebration it never got the first time around. Her 2001 soundtrack (for the film of the same name, in which she starred) returns as a 25th anniversary edition on October 30 via Def Jam and UMe, marking the album's first appearance on vinyl since its original release. The reissue lands alongside a newly reimagined single and a stack of rare material pulled from Carey's vault.

Leading the announcement is a fresh take on "Didn't Mean to Turn You On," reworked with British-Canadian artist Rochelle Jordan.

The reissue closes the book on one of pop's most public turnarounds. Panned on arrival and long treated as a punchline, Glitter found new life through the fan-driven #JusticeForGlitter campaign in 2018, which sent the album to No. 1 on iTunes more than 17 years after it came out. "I made this album with so much love and care, so it was devastating to watch it become a punchline," Carey said in a statement. "I'm endlessly grateful to my fans who kept championing it all these years."

Originally released on September 11, 2001, Glitter was Carey's eighth studio album and the soundtrack to the movie. It featured guest appearances with Ludacris, Da Brat, Ja Rule, Busta Rhymes, Fabolous, Mystikal, and Eric Benét, and its singles included "Loverboy," "Never Too Far," and "Don't Stop (Funkin' 4 Jamaica)."

The anniversary edition arrives in several formats. A standard Midnight Purple double LP will be available at all retailers, while a limited Glittering Pink double LP adds three bonus tracks and is exclusive to Amazon, shop.mariahcarey.com, and uDiscover Music. Signed editions come with a lithograph and foil numbering, and a digital deluxe edition expands the record with 15 additional tracks of rare and previously unreleased recordings from Carey's archive, with those selections to be revealed closer to release.

Glitter (25th Anniversary Edition) is out October 30. Preorder the album here.
