Mandy, Indiana announce new album 'URGH', share "Magazine"

UK noise rock/electro-industrial outfit Mandy, Indiana have announced their new LP URGH, which will come out of February 6th on Sacred Bones. It's the followup of the group's Fire Talk debut i've seen a way from 2023.

Mandy, Indiana have also shared a first taste: the heavily distorted, bass-driven "Magazine". Check out the visualizer, made by Stephen Agnew, below:

According to vocalist Valentine Caulfield the track became a potent landscape to express anger over a particularly traumatic event in her life:

"‘Magazine’ is the expression of the frustration and deep-seated violence I felt while attempting to recover from being raped. Just like most victims of sexual assault, I will never get justice, and just like most perpetrators, my attacker will never be punished. My therapist encouraged me to channel my anger into something productive. So here it is: my primal, screaming call for retribution. It is the only way I will ever get to say to my rapist: you hurt me, so I’m going to hurt you.”

URGH has both guitarist/producer Scott Fair and Gilla Band's Daniel Fox behind the producer's booth, spreading the writing and recording process between Leeds, Berlin and Manchester. Furthermore, Mandy, Indiana enlisted Brooklyn rapper billy woods to appear on the track "Sicko!".

A big catalyst in the process was both Caulfield and drummer Alex Macdougall dealing with physical ailments, going through multiple procedures and recoveries.

These individual ails disperse into themes of collective agony and oppression across the wider world, reckoning with "assault, systemic indifference and the omnipresence of pain", to take the first steps towards hope, a reclamation of power and catharsis. "We aren’t here to provide answers" a collective band statement reads, "as much as continually drawing people’s attention to the problems and not letting that conversation die."
