Magnolia Pictures announced today that they have acquired U.S. rights to It's Never Over: Jeff Buckley, directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Amy Berg. The film follows the tragically short career of singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley, who died suddenly at age 30 after the release of his debut album Grace. Buckley's story is told through never-before-seen footage from Buckley’s archives and intimate accounts from his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, and Jeff’s former bandmates.
Magnolia will release the film in theaters on August 8, and the film will premiere on HBO and stream on HBO Max this winter as part of the “Music Box” series, created by Bill Simmons.
“I’ve spent practically my entire career trying to make this film which takes a very intimate look at one of the greatest singers and songwriters of all time,” said Berg. “I’m so excited Magnolia and HBO have come on board to share this film with the world and give old fans and new audiences a chance to experience Jeff from this unique vantage point. I couldn’t imagine a better team to roll this into the world!”
There has yet to be a trailer released for this film.
