Magdalena Bay announce 'Imaginal Disk' album movie

One year ago today (Aug 23), Magdalena Bay released their critically acclaimed sophomore album Imaginal Disk via Mom+Pop. It was a breakthrough project that mesmerized listeners with its psychedelic and eclectic approach to pop music.

Now, the surrealist world of Imaginal Disk will get a full film.

For its anniversary, the duo has revealed in an Instagram post “the existence of a full album movie,” which they say is their “most ambitious undertaking thus far.” They don't disclose the current stage of production, but they promise the movie "will be done at some point...soon," and that they'll "share more information imminently" (they have shared a link to sign up for upcoming details).

This means we’ll have to wait longer until we know if it’ll be an online release or if it’ll hit theaters at all.

All previous Magdalena Bay music videos for tracks on Imaginal Disk (“Death & Romance, “Image”, and “That’s My Floor”) were written and edited by the duo, and directed by Amanda Kramer, so there’s a chance she’ll reprise her seat as director for the picture.

The Instagram post also shows a short snippet soundtracked by “Watching T.V.”; watch it below:

Full transcription:

“One year of Imaginal Disk- thank you for making our wildest dreams a reality. On this day, the anniversary of the record, we’d like to formally announce and acknowledge the existence of a full album movie. Surely our most ambitious undertaking thus far, this thing will be done at some point… soon… and we will share more information imminently. Thank you for your patience. More soon. We love you.”

The synthpop duo is also about to kick off their first big European headline run in 2026.
