Madi Diaz announces new LP 'Fatal Optimist', releases first taste "Feel Something"

Singer-songwriter Madi Diaz has announced that she is quickly following up last year's Grammy-nominated Weird Faith with a brand new album. Fatal Optimist, her seventh studio record, is out October 10 via ANTI-, and features largely stripped down songs focusing on Diaz's guitar and voice.

In light of the news, Diaz has shared first single "Feel Something". Watch the video below:

Speaking on the song, Diaz says:

"‘Feel Something’ is about the deep yearning and desire to connect. It’s the moment when you’re trying to call in the love that was lost. It’s the first single off the album because it has the sense of urgency and panic that I felt at that first moment I noticed I was alone in my relationship."

Fatal Optimist mostly ditches the full band affairs that have cropped up on her last couple LPs, despite Diaz originally intending for this album to be like that as well. Reportedly, it wasn't until she attempted to record versions of the songs with fuller instrumentation that she realized these songs should be more raw and stripped back. Accordingly, besides her voice and guitar, the album features mostly only minimal accompaniments of bass or keys or percussion.

Diaz co-produced the record with Gabe Wax.

Going deeper on the record – which dwells in heartbreak and healing, and becomes a sort of finale to her current triptych of record (2024's Weird Faith and 2021's History of a Feeling) – Diaz offers:

"I put myself on an island ... I was already describing myself as an emotional island swimming in so much of an ocean of feelings. It was the perfect physical manifestation, alone with all of my disappointment ... I didn’t know that I hadn’t chosen myself yet. The only person I’m never gonna leave is myself."

Diaz also has a hefty tour on the horizon, beginning with the Back Cove Festival in Maine on August 3, and concluding in Pioneertown, CA on November 21. Find all the dates down below.
