Singer, songwriter, alt-popper Lykke Li has announced what is reportedly her final album. The Afterparty is out May 8 via Neon Gold Records/Futures, following up her 2022 LP EYEYE.
With the news comes first single, "Lucky Again", which features a Max Richter sample. Watch the lyric video below:
Li recorded the album in Stockholm alongside a 17-piece orchestra. She also says the record includes "apocalyptic bongos," whatever that means!
According to a press release, Li claims she's in her "existential era" with this album. And of the new song, she goes on:
"To me it’s samsara in a song. The wheel of life; winning, losing, living, dying. Having had something and praying you’ll have it again. Whether it’s sex, money, vitality, love. I always said I wanted the Vivaldi song at my wedding or funeral but I think this is giving more revenge heist energy."
She says The Afterparty is a rebuttal to the societal focus on one's "higher self," explaining, "This is an album dealing with your lower self: your need for revenge, your shame, despair, all of it."
Li will be supporting this final record with a short tour, including two stops at Coachella in April, a show with Robyn in Mexico, and a night with Wolf Alice in London. Find all her dates below.
