Appearing on Nashville public radio station WNXP last Friday, Chuquimamani-Condori revealed that Los Thuthanaka will follow up their 2025 self-titled debut with the release of a new three-song instrumental project, Waq'a, which will debut on Bandcamp this Friday (April 3).
As Chuquimamani-Condori explained, two of the pieces on Waq'a are inspired by the time before the birth of the sun and the third about its implied ending, drawing on oral histories and traditional ceremonies of the Pakajaqi nation of Aymara people, to which they and their brother Joshua Chuquimia Crampton belong. The release will be accompanied by a downloadable PDF booklet written exclusively in the Aymara language, assembling "every version" of the solar creation myth they could find. The booklet was compiled in tandem with Shana Inofuentes and Eber Miranda with Ch’ama Native Americas.
