Limp Bizkit's tour stop in Estonia canceled

Dan Weiss

Fred Durst is having just one of those days. The Limp Bizkit frontman enjoyed a surprising resurgence of goodwill last year appearing in two films, the madly beloved I Saw the TV Glow, where he portrays a quietly menacing parent, and the very goofy Y2K, where he plays himself and (spoiler) a significant (too much if you ask me) portion of the final act is a running gag involving him and Limp Bizkit. But nevertheless, Bizkit nostalgia is here, and it may have hit a little snag.

Apparently being the wearer of a red hat requires you to effusively praise Vladimir Putin, and previously saying nice things about him and the Russian state for years has previously gotten Limp Bizkit banned from Ukraine. Now it looks like Estonia is following suit, and the band's tour stop there has been canceled.

There's some history to this: Durst married the Crimea-born makeup artist Kseniya Beryazina in 2012, and he apparently rubbed elbows with Russian state officials about filming content and even allegedly holding up a flag that read "Crimea = Russia" in reference to Russia annexing Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Durst and Beryazina divorced in 2018, but not before he was quoted referring to Putin as "a great guy with clear moral principles and a nice person." Oops. Putin supporters aren't welcome in Estonia, whose officials have expressed solidarity with Ukraine, so Limp Bizkit won't be appearing at Estonian arena Talinn next spring as planned. Promoters cited "circumstances beyond the organizer's control" after Durst's past comments resurfaced.
