Laughingstock and almost-but-not-quite festival Fyre Fest was sold on eBay some time ago, and now the buyer has been revealed: file sharing giant LimeWire.
The $245,300 transaction ("this sucks, it's so low," festival organizer Billy McFarland said of the price) has, so far, resulted in little but this website announcing the deal. At least the tagline seems apt: "What Could Possibly Go Wrong?"
CEO Julian Zehetmayr emphasized that this iteration of Fyre won't bring the festival back, and anything they debut will arrive "without the cheese sandwiches."
LimeWire Chief Operating Officer Marcus Fiestl declared that "we're here to own the meme and do it right. Fyre became a symbol of everything that can go wrong. Now it's our chance to show what happens when you pair cultural relevance with real execution."
Back in 2022, LimeWire launched a revival as a home for NFTs. Does that brilliant decision hold any prediction on the fate of this one? Time will tell...
What do you think?
