On January 7th, music streamer and FaZe Clan member Plaqueboymax invited several rappers to his live stream for a '5$TAR Session,' an in-the-booth style stream where Max would produce and engineer songs with underground rappers in a Brooklyn Airbnb.
Among the many people invited to the stream were New York drill rappers Lil Tjay and Fivio Foreign. The two were caught smoking four separate times in the back of the streamer's rental. "Yo Tjay," says Max, "this is a BnB, you can't smoke in here, this sh*t [the fire alarm] will go off. I appreciate you though."
Tjay and Fivio were caught a couple more times throughout the stream until they eventually left, with Fivio exhaling over Max's setup before walking out.
The moment garnered much negative attention across the internet, with Twitter largely characterizing the two as "fallen off rappers" crashing out over something that was, in the words of fellow streamer-turned-rapper DDG, "really ain't that deep." Some people came to their defense, like fellow rapper Asian Doll, who argues that it is unreasonable to treat rappers like this: "Donβt invite rappers if they canβt smoke." Largely, the internet came to the consensus that the two rappers were in the wrong, but it was not that big of a deal.
After clips from the stream circulated on Twitter, Fivio Foreign called into The No Jumper Show to elaborate on the situation. He jokes that he would have treated it differently if the Airbnb was in Max's state of New Jersey: "If he in Brooklyn, itβs house rules," before admitting that there is no bad blood between them. He also tweeted that the situation was unimportant by comparing it to the ongoing LA fires.
Lil Tjay, on the other hand, had more to say about what happened. The day after the clip made its rounds on Twitter, Tjay took to Twitch to discuss the incident: "Plaqueboymax, no disrespect, I definitely didnβt know you... I pulled up for Fivio, bro."
Tjay acknowledges how it came off to the stream, saying that he popped up to his crib with "20 goons" as Fivio's plus one, but ultimately he is not sorry. He offered to pay the fee for his marijuana usage while fanning a stack of hundreds to the camera: "Iβll pay the fine. How much that sh*t cost, bro?"
After that, Tjay called into DDG's stream where he took issue with how Max addressed him saying "appreciate it," calling it "sassy, crazy." Tjay felt disrespected by Max's comment, saying he would have slapped "the sh*t out of" him if he was not on camera. "And the crib already smells like smoke," Tjay continues.
DDG β who collaborated with Max on the Jerk rap hit "Pink Dreads" in December β warns Tjay about beefing with streamers, saying that Max is a "big deal" in the music and streaming sphere. Tjay shrugs, saying he "didn't know of him until that day." He ends his conversation with DDG by saying that he is not trying to cause any beef with streamers.
But it may seem like that attitude has changed. Following the whole smoke drama, a clip surfaced from Lil Tjay's stream where he is previewing an unreleased song, an alleged diss, called "F! The Streamer". Users are pointing out one line in particular to be a diss towards Max: "F**k the streamer / I never gave a f**k about a plaque." Tjay is talking over the vocals near the end of the bar, so it is unclear what he is rapping about without a finished mix. Still, Max's fanbase put together that Tjay's recent on-stream incident and him saying "F**k the streamer" likely is not be a coincidence.
Plaqueboymax reacted to the clip with mixed feelings. He showed love for Tjay and also laughed at the snippet, unsure if the quoted lyrics were really what's being said. "Are yall trolling? Is this album promo? See now I'm starting to think y'all on his team," he jokes to the chat. "Give me a time stamp, I don't hear it."
Max humors the chat and acknowledges that he heard something, but does not want to give the situation any more attention. He is more concerned with continuing his music career and putting on the artists he works with.
