British musician and former One Direction star Liam Payne has passed away at the age of 31.

Payne allegedly fell from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina, according to Reuters via Spanish-language sources La Nacion and Clarin, who claim local authorities responded to an emergency call in the area responding to "an aggressive man who could be under the effects of drugs or alcohol."

Payne, once a core member of the British boyband One Direction alongside Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik, gained widespread recognition starting in 2010 following their appearances on the UK edition of "The X Factor." The band later opted for a hiatus in 2015.

Payne, post-One Direction, ventured into the realm of solo music and made his mark with his debut solo album titled LP1 released in 2019. In March of a subsequent year, Payne followed up with another album release called Teardrops.

Payne's personal life included becoming a father in 2017, sharing his parenthood journey with Girls Aloud's Cheryl Cole, marking another chapter in his life besides his musical endeavors.
