Les Claypool is a man with many fascinations beyond the bass. Mr. Primus is into wine, fishing, aviation, classic cars, and a lot more besides. In a new interview with Bass Magazine, Claypool revealed the latest acquisition for his roster of hobbies: a gold mine.
"I bought me a gold mine up in the mountains," Claypool began, sounding like a character straight out of a Primus tune. "It’s an old hydraulic mine, and I've been going up there to explore it. My friends and my son and I dig holes and look for some nuggets. I've already found a handful of them."
The names of his newest releases make a certain amount of sense when you take into account this latest eccentricity. The Claypool Lennon Delirium unveiled a new album this year, The Great Parrot-Ox and the Golden Egg of Empathy, and Primus put out a new EP today (May 15th) which refers to this new pastime, A Handful of Nuggs.
Catch Claypool on the road with three of his bands (Primus, Claypool Lennon Delirium, and Fearless Flying Frog Brigade) on the Claypool Gold tour, which kicks off soon.
