The ever-eccentric Primus leader Les Claypool has one helluva taste in cars. From 1994 to 2004, Claypool owned the Grabber Green 1969 Shelby Mustang GT500 convertible you see above. The droptop 'stang recently sold on the car auction website Bring a Trailer. Who turned out to be the buyer? Claypool himself.
The bassist has had a Bring a Trailer account, dubbed Loocho, since March 2022 – but Claypool left zero bids or comments until his former Mustang came along. After winning the car, he revealed his identiy: "Full disclosure…I always regretted selling that car 20 years ago…I bought her back!…this is Les Claypool btw."
Claypool left a few other comments after plunking down $181,000 for the Shelby, including mention of his current touring with A Perfect Circle and Puscifer: "Im [sic] actually on tour right now for Maynard Keenan’s birthday celebration, SESSANTA. We are camped in Myrtle Beach and I was dreading my internet going out. Ha!"
Claypool also noted that he hopes to have the GT500 participate in a car show to be held at his Sebastopol winery on June 14th. As the man himself noted: "Being the son of a mechanic, with all mechanic uncles etc., I am a sucker for classic cars."
