Singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey has been riding high these past few years, with several albums released to general warmth and positive reception over a short time. Her most recent album, Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd (which was nominated for two Grammys) came out in March 2023, and for a while now she's been teasing its follow-up, Lasso.
And while there is still no release date for Lasso, Del Rey has shared that a couple new songs will be out "by the end of the year," she told Vogue in a recent interview. These songs will follow her most recent single, "Tough", which you can revisit below:
While early reports hyped up Lasso's apparent dive into country, Del Rey notes in the aforementioned interview that there isn't as much of a dramatic switch-up as has been hinted, saying, in part:
“All my albums are somewhat rooted in Americana, unless it’s an album like ‘Honeymoon’ which has a jazz flair, so I don’t think it will be a heavy departure. If anything, it will just be a little lighter lyrically, and more pointed in a classic country, American, or Southern Gothic production — which again, so many of my songs already are.”
Though it's been rumored to be released in September (a sentiment originally also shared by Del Rey herself), without an official release date, we will have to wait and see just how far down the country rabbit hole Lasso actually flies.
