Daisy's very chagrined: Lana Del Rey

Lana Del Rey releases “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter”

No one loves a big, sloppy album rollout like Lana Del Rey and she's been talking up her forthcoming tenth(!) LP since almost right after 2023's critical smash Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd. First it was to be titled Lasso and purportedly a country pivot; she was unfortunately beaten to the punch by Cowboy Carter and fair number of other items on the yeehaw agenda in pop, including Post Malone's commercial hurricane F-1 Trillion. Then she backpedaled a bit on the twang plan and renamed it The Right One Will Stay.

Now it's Stove, and a press release says something will likely be happening three months from now. Believe it when you see it, but each one of these album title changes has come with a real, released song. First was last year's "Henry, Come On", which did have some acoustic guitar (and harp and glockenspiel, strings). "Bluebird" followed, and now we get the quirkiest tune she's done since "A&W".

The title of Lana's newest single is "White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter" and she speak-sings it almost like Kim Gordon, whisper-rapping about her husband Jeremy Dufrene (listed among the co-writer credits along with Del Rey, her sister Chuck Grant, brother-in-law Jason Pickens, producer Jack Antonoff and more). Notable lyrics include "whoopsie-daisy, deposition cocaine," "likes to push me on this green John Deere mower / I know you wish you had a man like him, it's such a bummer," and "we're a match, he's just in my bone marrow." And yes, his nickname is Daddy.
