Kurt Cobain's smashed guitar sells for $101,500

In 1992, during a Nirvana European tour, Kurt Cobain destroyed his white Fender Stratocaster, leaving it in pieces on stage. The guitar was later reassembled, put back into working order, and eventually inherited by a crew member at the end of the tour. It was even authenticated by Big John Duncan, a renowned guitar tech and friend of the band.

Last Friday, the resurrected Stratocaster was sold at auction through GottaHaveRockAndRoll for a whopping $101,500. According to information obtained by TMZ, the guitar was ultimately purchased by a Texas collector who outbid 11 active bidders. (The minimum bid started at $30,000.)

For context, the guitar Cobain used in the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" music video previously sold for $4.5 million — so if there's one lesson here, it’s that you might want to forget Bitcoin and start investing in smashed guitars from '90s rockstars instead.
