Kneecap member charged with terrorism in the UK

Mo Chara, real name Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh of the Irish hip-hop trio Kneecap has been charged with a terror offence in the United Kingdom related to his display of a flag in support of Hezbollah in November 2024.

British anti-terror police began investigating the incident in April 2025 after footage emerged of the rapper holding the organization's, which has been designated as a terrorist organisation in the UK since 2019, at a gig at London's O2 Forum in Kentish town. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on Wednesday, June 18.

The outspoken band, dubbed by the Guardian as the "most controversial band in the UK" earlier this month, have been widely condemned by British and Irish politicians over their support for Hamas and Hezbollah, as well as saying "kill your local MP" onstage in November 2023.

On the other hand, artists including Fontaines D.C., English Teacher, Massive Attack, Pulp, and Paul Weller have expressed support for Kneecap, singing an open letter opposed to attempts to remvoe the band from several music festivals including Glastonbury.
