BBC Lounge 1 is a reliable source of great left-field cover songs, and Geese is in the air, having just played "Trinidad" and "Au Pays du Cocaine" on their SNL debut Saturday.
So it makes sense that Mikaela Straus, aka King Princess, cult singer-songwriter behind anthems like "1950" and the 2018 classic "Pussy Is God", would cover the latter during her stint on the show. Samia also did the song recently, and Straus's version of the rough-hewn ballad unsurprisingly sounds like classic rock. But Straus goes an extra mile by, fascinatingly, calling the Geese favorite a "lesbian anthem."
Here's what she said about the song:
"That Geese song is such a lesbian anthem. You can change and still choose me'? I don't know. Ask some of your lesbian friends what that means. It's just such a beautiful song. It really represents what it's like to be in love right now, like a song about two people wanting freedom and wanting to be individuals and yet are actively choosing to stay together and that feels super present but also extremely queer."
Watch her cool, faithful take on it below and see for yourself.
