King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard left Spotify in July, citing CEO Daniel Ek’s investments in AI military drone technology — a move that followed in the footsteps of bands like Xiu Xiu.
Yesterday, the Australian multi-genre band decided to let fans “name their price” for all of their albums on Bandcamp. Yes, all 27 of them. Twenty-seven. I counted.
As a result, they now occupy all 27 of the top-selling albums on Bandcamp, with paying supporters getting unlimited streaming of King Gizzard’s music on the app.
Speaking on their decision to leave Spotify, the band wrote, “Spotify CEO Daniel Ek invests millions in AI military drone technology.” They added, “We just removed our music from the platform. Can we put pressure on these Dr. Evil tech bros to do better?”
King Gizzard is currently taking a break in the middle of a massive world tour, set to resume on October 31 in Manchester, UK. Upcoming shows are either classified as “Rock ’n’ Roll,” “Raves,” or “Orchestra.” See the full list of dates below.
