Kim Gordon announces new solo LP 'PLAY ME', first single out now

Sonic Youth legend Kim Gordon has announced the details for her followup to 2024's Grammy-nominated The Collective. Her third solo record, PLAY ME, is out March 13 on Matador, and continues her collaboration with producer Justin Raisen.

Alongside the news comes first single "NOT TODAY", which was directed by Rodarte fashion designers Kate and Laura Mulleavy, and shot by cinematographer Christopher Blauvelt. Watch below:

The new album reportedly finds Gordon exploring more "melodic beats" and Krautrock influences. Of the process, Gordon says:

"[Justin Raisen and I] wanted the songs to be short. We wanted to do it really fast. It’s more focused, and maybe more confident. I always kind of work off of rhythms, and I knew I wanted it to be even more beat-oriented than the last one. Justin really gets my voice and my lyrics and he understands how I work—that came forth even more on this record."

Gordon says she was largely inspired by the news and the goings-on of the world as of late, saying "we are in some kind of ‘post empire’ now, where people just disappear."

Notably, the album ends with "BYEBYE25", a reworking/update of the lead single from The Collective, "BYE BYE".
