Kendrick Lamar's monumental year is capped off as GNX debuts at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, marking his fifth solo chart-topping album and his sixth overall, if you include his contributions to the Black Panther soundtrack.
The album racked up 319,000 equivalent album units in its first week, according to Billboard, making it the sixth-biggest opening of 2024.
Meanwhile, the Wicked film soundtrack enters at No. 2, securing the highest debut for any stage musical adaptation. With 139,000 equivalent album units, it becomes the biggest week for a film soundtrack in over six years.
As Kendrick stays quiet amidst legal battles and the ongoing drama with Lil Wayne, fans have speculated about a possible deluxe version of GNX, though nothing has been confirmed. It’s safe to assume that we won’t hear from Kendrick again until his Super Bowl halftime show, and we’ll be patiently waiting to see which tracks from his latest chart-topper will make the cut for the performance.
