Kacey Musgraves announces new album 'Middle of Nowhere', shares lead single “Dry Spell”

Kacey Musgraves has finally pulled the curtain back on her next chapter. The singer-songwriter’s sixth studio album, Middle of Nowhere, is set to arrive May 1 via Lost Highway Records

The first glimpse of Musgraves’ latest creative wandering arrives with the album’s lead single, “Dry Spell”. Check out the accompanying music video below, co-directed by Musgraves alongside Hannah Lux Davis.

The 13-track record finds Musgraves once again in the studio with trusted collaborators Daniel Tashian and Ian Fitchuk, the pair who have helped shape much of her recent sonic identity. This time around, she’s also brought along a few friends for the ride, including country icon Willie Nelson, fellow Texan Miranda Lambert, bluegrass phenom Billy Strings, and indie-folk mainstay Gregory Alan Isakov.

According to a press release, the album’s title traces back to a roadside sign just outside Musgraves’ hometown of Golden, Texas that reads, “Somewhere in the Middle of Nowhere.” The phrase stuck with her, less as a punchline and more as a mood. From that spark, Musgraves began leaning into imagery of wide-open landscapes and classic Western textures, building a record that drifts comfortably across the edges of country music, pulling in touches of bluegrass, pop, and even flashes of Norteño and Zydeco along the way.
