The FIFA World Cup is scheduled to have its first-ever halftime show featuring one hell of a lineup, and now it's getting even better.
Justin Bieber has joined the likes of Madonna, Shakira, and BTS for the global event, which takes place July 19 during the championship match at New York New Jersey Stadium, also known as MetLife Stadium, in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Curated by Coldplay's Chris Martin, the 11-minute half-time show also features performances by Afro-fusion great Burna Boy, renowned Venezuelan conductor Gustavo Dudamel, and the PS22 Chorus, an elementary school choir from Staten Island.
The halftime show will support the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, an initiative raising $100 million to provide access to quality education and football for children in more than 200 countries.
In a statement, Biebs expressed his enthusiasm for what will end up as one of the most-watched music events in the world:
"The FIFA World Cup brings the world together in a way nothing else can. I’m grateful to be part of this Halftime Show, and even more grateful knowing it’s already helping expand access to education for children around the world."
Nigerian singer-songwriter Burna Boy co-created this year's official World Cup anthem, "Dai Dai," with Shakira. Listen below:
He also commented on his role:
"The FIFA World Cup is one of the few moments that truly brings the entire world together. To represent Africa on the first-ever FIFA World Cup Final Halftime Show is a privilege and a responsibility that I don’t take lightly."
The performances are expected to become one of the most-watched musical broadcasts in history as the 2022 FIFA World Cup Final between Argentina and France reached an estimated 1.5 billion people worldwide.
