Harkening back to Daft Punk’s 2001 anime classic Interstella 5555, French electronic duo Justice have released the official video for "Neverender", the opening track from their latest LP, Hyperdrama. The song features an appearance by Kevin Parker of Tame Impala and comes alongside the announcement of new "Neverender" remix EP with producers Kaytranada and Rampa.
The new video is directed by Masanobu Hiroaka, with production by creative collective CEKAI, who previously provided their talents to indie rock band Phoenix (After Midnight). The group operates out of Tokyo, New York, and LA, and has worked with major brands like Nike, Marvel, and Uniqlo. Kota Iguchi, the motion designer on "Neverender"'s video, has most notably worked on the 2020 Tokyo Olympics opening ceremonies. Together, Iguchi and Hiroaka teamed up with previous Justice collaborator Armand Beraud (IRIS: a Space Opera) to give "Neverender" an anime-inspired look that would fit in with any afterschool Toonami block.
Speaking on their latest video and its inspirations, Justice mentioned:
“[K]ey images from our teenage years naturally came into play. Whether it was the work of Moebius, psychedelic art, graphic novels, or iconic film posters that fascinated us, Masanobu’s style seamlessly absorbed and unified them all.”
Hiroaka also works with creative agencies Mimoid and caviar - you can check out more of his work over on his Vimeo account.
The "Neverender" remix EP is dropping this Friday, September 27th, and will include four tracks: an extended version of the original song, a radio edit, and two remixes by Kaytranada and Rampa. Justice’s reappearance after an eight-year break came with a number of collaborations - Tame Impala, Thundercat, and Connan Mockasin are just a sampling of artists that appeared on Hyperdrama. The new EP and video are coming right in time for the next leg of their North American tour, with the remaining dates and opening acts below:
