Today, Julia Jacklin premiered the third single off her upcoming album, The Gem (out September 25 on 4AD), following recent releases "I Wish" and "Get Away From Me (I Think I’ll Love You Soon)." Jacklin sings atop a Melbourne skyscraper, which Danny Cohen captures in one shot from a helicopter winding through the picturesque cityscape.

Her follow-up to 2022's PRE PLEASURE and first for 4AD explores the tension between loving and wanting to be loved, and freeing herself from the burdens of desire. When she first moved to Melbourne from Sydney, she frequented a pub of the same name. She didn't know anyone, but felt compelled to make the city her home, forcing herself to befriend the bar's staff and patrons.

Eight years later, she's mined a new album, produced by "old drinking buddy" Robert Muinos, who owns Rat Shack studios located above The Gem.

"The Gem felt like a metaphor for the whole process, because a lot of it did feel like digging," Jacklin confesses in a press release. "I felt like I was doing it almost in the dark, just trusting I was going to find something."
