Argentine singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Juana Molina is back after eight years. Doga, her followup to 2017's Halo, is out November 5 via her own Sonamos.
You can check out the first single, "Siestas ahí", here:
In an Instagram post about the record (translated from Spanish), Molina offered:
"After almost 7 years of recording and recording and almost seven years of thinking I had nothing, we were surprised that I actually had thousands of hours of music, recordings in different circumstances, places and people: odin, diego, husband, mati, until we brought emilio to the project to help me sort out the chaos that the accumulation causes."
Doga – her eighth album – was conceived when Molina was working on improvisational music with keyboardist Odín Schwartz in 2019, and continuing to tour in various settings and setups over the following five years. It was co-produed by Molina, Mario Agustín De Jesús Gonzàlez, and Emilio Haro. Molina expands:
"The idea was to play as if I were at home, that is, to improvise. It was a duo mostly of analog synthesizers and sequencers. We recorded everything — so many hours — because there was no way to reproduce what we did; both rehearsals and shows were unique. Some of those ideas were later picked up again."
Molina famously began her career as a comedic actress in Argentina in the 80s and 90s, and has recently been back on screens with the Argentine Netflix series, En El Barro (In the Mud), which premiered this past August.
