First Taylor Swift, and now JPEGMAFIA.
The experimental rapper announced today that he has regained the masters from his sophomore studio album, Veteran, released via Deathbomb Arc.
Through social media, the trailblazer producer says that owning your work “is a privilege most artists do not get.” His breakout album “changed my life forever. Without it, I would’ve never had the chance to showcase my experimental talents to the world. Some people cry like hoes when they have to acknowledge something from their past — but thankfully, I possess none of these lame tendencies. ”
“My albums are my children. I said this in 2019, and I meant it.”
In celebration of the event, he will release a Director’s Cut of the Veteran LP this Friday (June 6), including the original 19 tracks, six bonus tracks — which were part of the NOT ON VETERAN! Soundcloud compilation — and instrumentals.
On the description of the vinyl item on his website, he adds that “The next time I acknowledge this child publicly, I will remaster him.” The other editions of the album include a CD in the style of a PS2 videogame case, a cassette tape, and a Box Set with 25 bullet-shaped USBs for all 25 tracks featured on the Veteran: Director's Cut edition, which has, in each individual round, instrumentals, demos, and more content that isn’t disclosed yet.
JPEGMAFIA recently returned with a 4-track EP with electronic artist Flume, titled We Live In A Society. His previous drop to that was another Director’s Cut, for I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU.
