JPEGMAFIA announced today (January 20) a director’s cut is coming of his latest album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU, released in August 2024 via AWAL. According to the rapper, the new edition comes out next week, with no exact date disclosed yet.

On top of the surprise reveal, he dropped a new song from the forthcoming director’s cut, “PROTECT THE CROSS”, which follows a blend of rap and rock he accustomed us to on the original LP. You can watch the music video for the track, directed by JPEGMAFIA and Logan Fields, below:
On X, the trailblazing producer shared with a fan that the deluxe album will have 13 tracks, only one less than the standard version:

He also shared a peculiar “guide” to help “some of you” better understand his raps, specifically for the recent single:

This isn’t the first time Peggy has released a director’s cut of one of his previous projects. All My Heroes Are Cornballs received the same treatment, including 4 additional tracks, as well as extended versions of the original tracklist.
Moreover, there’s a premium edition of ILDMLFY that was available on his website as a limited run exclusively on vinyl. It included a bonus track, instrumentals, and extended versions of several tracks. There is no confirmation yet as to whether these will be included on the director’s cut of the album.
