Jimmy Eat World announce new EP, release new song 'Failure'

Six years since the release of Surviving, Jimmy Eat World have finally announced their long-awaited return with the upcoming six-song Something(s) Loud EP, which drops November 14 via the band's Exotic Location Recordings.

The band has shared first single "Failure", recorded during the Surviving sessions and mixed by Failure's Ken Andrews, which sounds heavily influenced by the space rock band's otherworldly fuzz.

Coming out of the pandemic, Jimmy Eat World released a handful of standalone singles, which many had hoped would turn into a new album. Instead, they are being packaged as a new EP, with frontman Jim Atkins explaining:

“By 2021, it felt like distancing restrictions were finally easing and we could get back on the road. Our 'Surviving' album had barely been released before we were performing live again and reconnecting with fans. Coming out of the pandemic, it didn’t feel right to tour without offering something more, so we took the chance to share a few more tracks we’d been working on. At the time, it seemed like listeners were gravitating toward playlists rather than full albums, so we decided to meet them where they were.”

Something(s) Loud also includes an original and acoustic version of “Something Loud”, “Place Your Debts”, plus a TW Walsh remix, and a cover of Crooked Fingers’ “Call to Love” with Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino.

Back in 2019, during the recording sessions for Surviving, Andrews broke down the mix to "Failure" in a YouTube video posted on his account. Watch it below:

Earlier this year, Atkins collaborated with Jay Som on the alt-rock-tinged single "Float", which appeared on her latest album A Million Reasons Why.
