Singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Jesse Kivel has released his first song since his 2023 album Life and Death at Party Rock.
It's called "The House of Nassi". Listen below:
Having entered his 40th year, Kivel wanted to honor the man who made that number feel outlandish to him - a man by the name of Albert Nassi.
This excerpt is taken straight from the song's Bandcamp page.
"The year is 1990. I am in my living room, helping my parents unwrap a package. Within this package is a tape. We turn the tape on and rhythmic sounds begin to play. Through the groove the lyrics announce my parents cordial invitation to Albert Nassi’s 40th birthday. The song, catchy, over the top and grand, stayed in my mind for 30 years. “Al Nassi, turns 40…Daddy turns 40…The big Four Oh…” Now in my 40th year I have decided to reflect on the man who immortalized himself in song all those years ago. The man for whom stamps and printed invitations were simply not enough."
“The House of Nassi” was co-written by Kivel and Joey Genetti, features pedal steel from Hamilton Belk, guitar and vocals from Matt Popieluch, and vocals, guitars, keys, bass, and additional production from Kivel.
You can see Jesse Kivel live next month at Tandem Coffee in Portland, Maine, on Friday, April 18th.
