Jens Lekman's new album, Songs for Other People's Weddings, arrives September 12th on the Secretly Canadian label. It's his first LP in almost a decade, following 2017's Life Will See You Now. The project is conceptual in nature, being based around David Levithan's book of the same name, which the two collaborated on.
To coincide with the novel being released today, Lekman has shared the second advance single (following "Candy from a Stranger") from the album, the 10-minute "Wedding in Leipzig".
An animated lyric video accompanies the music, which "plays out like a melodic chapter in a novel," according to a press release. Watch and listen:
If the 10:33 runtime raises your eyebrow, Lekman explains that the song "never wanted to end, it just kept writing itself." In fact, the track "was 20 minutes long at one point before [he] started cutting it down." Lekman names the Lou Reed classic "Street Hassle" as inspiration for "Wedding in Leipzig".
Lekman will head on a North American tour in the autumn to support Songs for Other People's Weddings. Before that, however, Lekman has joined a book tour with David Levithan across the U.S. You can find the dates for the book tour below.
