After dropping lead single "Float" last July, Jay Som – the musical project of Melina Duterte – has released the second single "Cards On The Table" from her forthcoming third album Belong. It's a propellent, loop-based song that also features Lexi Vega of Mini Trees.

Duterte says of the new track:

“‘Cards On The Table’ is my favorite song on Belong! It’s about the shifting nature of friendships and how devastating conflict can be in platonic relationships when you feel misunderstood by each other. I think it’s a universal experience to navigate that type of dynamic. It feels like a never-ending cycle of people walking in and out of your life, but it ultimately leads to self discovery and growth.”

Belong finds Duterte's role in Jay Som shift, collaborating more avidly with musicians met on the road, including Joao Gonzalez (Soft Glas), the aformentioned Lexi Vega (Mini Trees), Steph Marziano (Bartees Strange, Cassandra Jenkins) and Mal Hauser (a collaborator to Mk.gee and Illuminati Hotties). Paramore's Hayley Williams, who recently released a whole lot of songs, features on"Past Lives".

Jay Som is currently in the stretch of her tour opening for Lucy Dacus. In October, she and her band will play some European dates – starting at Amsterdam's London Calling – and perform at a new batch of US dates in the Fall.
