In September 2024, alternative rock band Jane's Addiction underwent an explosive breakup during a concert in Boston. Singer Perry Farrell assaulted guitarist Dave Navarro mid-song, leading to a canceled tour and, as you might imagine, no more Jane's Addiction. The scuffle killed a reunion effort that saw the release of new singles and the return of founding bassist Eric Avery.
On December 17th, the band released a statement to social media, along with Farrell issuing one of his own.
The band's message reads, in part, that "we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane's Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together." They go on to say, "We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors."
In addition, the band's statement expresses regret for opting to cancel the tour without Farrell's input, and making "inaccurate statements about Perry's mental health."
Farrell's announcement, meanwhile, consists of an apology for his outburst:
"I've reflected on it and know I didn't handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show. My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest, and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I'm truly sorry to everyone who was impacted."
