Jack Russell, frontman of Great White, dies at 63

Former frontman of glam metal band Great White Jack Russell has died at age 63, per an announcement on X.

Tributes have poured in from around the rock world, most notably from his former band, offering condolences to the singer's family, saying in part, "We hope they will take comfort in knowing Jack's incredible voice will live on forever. His love for the fans and his sons went unmatched."

Others from the glam world such as Dee Snider and Bret Michaels have also offered their tributes.

Russell founded Great White alongside guitarist Mark Kendall in 1977, releasing their eponymous debut album in 1984. They reached the peak of their fame in the late 1980s with the release of their Platinum-certified album Once Bitten in 1987. The band made national headlines in 2003 when a fire during a performance in Rhode Island led to the deaths of 100 people, including one member of the band in the deadliest pyrotechnics accident in American history.

Just last month he announced his retirement from touring on Facebook after a diagnosis with Lewy Body Dementia and Multiple System Atrophy in May. "I am unable to perform at the level I desire and at the level you deserve," that statement read, "Words cannot express my gratitude for the many years of memories, love, and support. Thank you for letting me live my dreams."
