J. Cole treated listeners to a couple of unreleased songs he recorded with Kendrick Lamar on his podcast "Inevitable." The 2014 Forest Hills Drive rapper spun the tracks on episode four of his "audio series," co-hosted by J. Cole himself, which provides fans with intimate conversations and unreleased music.

The songs "Shock the World" and "Temptation" were recorded in 2010, back when the two floated around the idea of a joint album that never came to fruition.

J. Cole also opened up about his friendship with the rap mogul, hot off the release of his latest album, "GNX." He revealed that the two met at an XXL Freshman cover shoot, leading to the eventual collaboration after Kendrick heard the song he produced for the 2012 film, Project X.

"When I dropped ‘Blow Up,’ I remember him hitting me like, ‘N—a, I need one of those!’ He was talking about how crazy the beat was. When I was out in L.A., he came by No I.D.‘s studio and I linked with him... I played him the beat for ‘HiiiPoWeR,’ I played him ‘Temptation’ with my verse on it, I played him a couple of other joints that had one verse on it.”

The rapper added that when he offered to hand the beats over as requested, Kendrick gave him advice that grounded him.

"It always stuck with me ’cause I had never heard nobody say this to me before — he was looking at me like, ‘N—a, are you sure you want to give me these?!’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, go ahead, take them.’ He was like, ‘Bro, you sleeping on yourself.’ It struck me because it was actually the stone cold truth of my reality at that time. I was so focused on getting this unicorn hit for my album that I was actually sleeping on the shit that I did well.”

While the tracks have yet to be released on streaming platforms, longtime hip-hop heads may have been aware of their existence after Kendrick debuted them at a meet-and-greet many years ago.

Alongside new (old) music, J. Cole has also announced the presale for his five-year reiteration of the Dreamville Festival, with tickets on sale Dec. 9 at 9am ET.
