Friday Night Lights, J. Cole's third official mixtape, was originally released in November 2010. The tracks were initially planned to appear on the rapper's debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story, but were scrapped after his label deemed them commercially unviable.

Instead, Cole dropped the songs and bonus freestyles as a mixtape. The song "In The Morning," featuring Drake, was the only record from the project that made the cut on his debut.

The mixtape includes features from Wale, Omen, Kanye West, Pusha T, Big Sean, as well as production from Timbaland, Syience, and Elite..

The streaming release omits the bonus track, “Looking for Trouble."
