Ichiko Aoba releases new single "Lullaby"

Japanese singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist Ichiko Aoba has released a brand new standalone single, "Lullaby", via her independent label hermine. It is also being ushered into the world via Psychic Hotline - the American label spearheaded by Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso - who is now handling release of her work in North America.

Listen to it here:

The track follows last year's singles "Space Orphans" and "Meringue Doll", and finds her working with composer and past collaborator Taro Umebayashi. Over spare acoustic guitar, Aoba sings a calm and soothing (though slightly melancholy) melody, while some plinking keys trickle in ahead of a fuller, soft soundscape.

Of the track, Aoba said she wanted to craft a lullaby "so creatures of all sizes might find tranquility in their sleep."

The last full-length album from Aoba was 2020's Windswept Adan. She will begin a European tour this month that will take her back to some shows in Japan, where she will also be hosting a special two-show event called "Luminescent Creatures" with a full ensemble of 10 of musicians.

"Lullaby" is out now across streaming platforms.
