One of the most exciting experimental rock bands currently active on the US, the Baltimore outfit Horse Lords just announced their sixth studio album, Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive!. The record is out on June 12 via RVNG Intl.
Listen to its double lead singles, "Eureka 378-B" and "Brain of the Firm" below:
For the first time in the group's 16-year history, "Eureka 378-B" features vocals, courtesy of singers Nina Guo and Evelyn Saylor. The visuals for the new singles are signed by the American artist Scott Kiernan.
If "Eureka 378-B" and "Brain of the Firm" are any indication of what's coming in the new album, it sounds like Horse Lords have evolved their complex, detailed sound to new heights since their last full length record, 2022's Comradely Objects. They're pulling not just from their usual math rock and prog sounds, but also from North African guitar rhythms like tuareg and tishoumaren music.
Though Demand to Be Taken to Heaven Alive! is not a suite "per se," according to the band, the 12 tracks on the album interact with each other. “We like the idea of art as a tool for changing your perspective, being able to rotate ideas and see/hear/feel them from a different vantage point,” they explain.
To promote the album, the band is going tour through the US and Europe this summer and fall. Check out the dates down below.
