HONESTY share new single “MEASURE ME” from upcoming debut album ‘U R HERE’

Alan Pedder

Leeds-based cross-genre collective HONESTY will release their debut album U R HERE on 7 February, following last year’s EP WHERE R U and their BOX mixtape released earlier this year on Partisan Records. The four core members – George Mitchell, Matt Peel, Josh Lewis, and vocalist Imi Holmes – are joined on the record by guest vocalists including Liam Bailey, Softlizard, Katie Drew, and Kosi Tides, who also featured on BOX. The Bailey-featuring "NO RIGHT 2 LOVE" dropped earlier this summer, along with a remix by Grey Code.

The album announcement coincides with the release of second single “MEASURE ME” featuring Softlizard, aka Liza Violet, formerly of noise-pop duo Menace Beach. Lyrically inspired by a strange dream/nightmare that Violet had experienced, where she saw herself “weighing her own brain to work out how it measures,” the band describe the track as keeping “some of our post punk abilities from our previous bands whilst pushing it sonically into what we now know as HONESTY,” adding “A sort of existential dream of panic that flows within the beat in motoric measurements.”

Speaking about U R HERE in a press release announcing the album, HONESTY say it “became an organic collaborative effort at sounding like passing the aux cable around at an afterparty,” adding:

“This album being inspired by such a wide range of music from shoegaze to UK bass, we all decided to never let ourselves get boxed in by one genre. We wanted the listener to feel like they are free to roam through our very own map of soundscapes, yet the whole time clearly labelling a U R HERE pinpoint.”
