He can't put down the mic – R. Kelly has reportedly written 25 albums while in prison

Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly is three years into his 31 year prison sentence for racketeering and sex trafficking, but that hasn't stopped him from making more music.

In a silence-breaking call from the monitored prison phone line with the Inmate Tea With A&P podcast, the man behind Trapped in the Closet claimed he had written "like 25" albums since the start of his sentence in 2021. His prison sentence has been extended twice: in 2022 for three counts of sexual exploitation enticement of a minor child via production of child pornography as well as three counts of coercion and enticement of a minor to engage in criminal sexual activity. It was extended one more year in 2023 for the previous child pornography charges in Illinois federal court.

Kelly is no stranger to prolific working habits; he released 18 albums between 1992 and 2016, as well as the 33 "chapters" that comprise the unfinished Trapped in the Closet.

He was accused in 2017 of holding half a dozen women hostage, some allegedly underage, as part of what was described as a “cult,” in which he allegedly controlled every aspect of their lives. Multiple women later came forward to allege that Kelly sexually and physically abused them in the bombshell Surviving R. Kelly series; Kelly and his legal team have denied the allegations.
