Following last month's "Feed the Fireflies", Northern Irish composer and producer Hannah Peel and London-based Chinese percussionist Beibei Wang have shared a second track from their upcoming album The Endless Dance, due May 22 on Real World Records.
Produced by Mike Lindsay (Tunng, LUMP, Anna B Savage), "Awaken the Insects" features some impressively playful vocals from Wang as she repurposes a Chinese tongue twister, accompanied by rhythmic bamboo clappers (kuai ban).

"As soon as I showed it to my Chinese friends, they could not stop laughing,” says Wang in a press release, adding that the five-day recording sessions at Real World Studios were very much rooted in the philosophy of Taoism and following your intuition:
“We appreciate and value what we're doing in the moment – this is very Taoism. We don't worry about the result, we don't stress about so much preparation. We don't resolve the chords; we let them go on and on, letting them flow, and letting nature guide us.”
She also describes the album as "two women talking in totally different languages that had a wonderful chat," which sums it up perfectly.
Hannah Peel and Beibei Wang tour dates:
10/20 Gateshead, UK @ International
10/21 Glasgow, UK @ St. Luke's
10/24 London, UK @ Barbican
