They're just having fun: GWAR

GWAR covered Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club"

Dan Weiss

GWAR has been a theatrical mock-metal institution for over 40 years but they're always providing awesome new reasons to keep going. Last year, they pissed off MAGA by doing what they always do and mocking Trump in effigy like so many other presidents and prominent political figures before him. In 2014, they briefly had a new lead singer named Vulvatron.

And now, as part of AV Club's long-running Undercover series, they've covered one of the only songs of the 2020s that's a stone-cold new standard for the songbooks: Chappell Roan's "Pink Pony Club".

(This wasn't long after Chap threw down her own left-field curveball cover of the Magnetic Fields' "The Book of Love," either. And to close the circle here, the Magnetic Fields themselves name-checked GWAR in "Acoustic Guitar" off 69 Love Songs, the same classic album that "The Book of Love" hails from as well.)

It sounds both extremely faithful to the original and also very much like GWAR, who are more polished pros in 2026 than you might expect on those guitar solos. Watch hell freeze over below.
