Memphis rapper GloRilla has released a string of EPs, mixtapes and singles over the past five years, each one building on the last to position her as a real contender in a crowded field.
It's been a great year for the 25-year-old, having scored two #1 hits on Billboard's R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart with "Yeah Glo!" and "TGIF", teamed up with close friend Megan Thee Stallion on the Barack Obama-approved "Wanna Be" and their Hot Girl Summer Tour, as well as being honored by her hometown with a key to the city. Now, with her debut album Glorious newly announced for an 11 October release via CMG/Interscope, things could be only just warming up for the self-styled ghetto philosopher.
Sharing the '90s-inspired album cover on social media yesterday afternoon (19 September), GloRilla said she was "so grateful to be sharing this with y’all" and promised another new song at midnight "as a little treat."
Enter "Hollon", which had been heavily teased as the next big single. A preview of the track caused some backlash due to the use of an ableist slur in the opening verse, but that's now been removed. “You must not know what you just started / Me and my bitches go gnarly," she warns instead. GloRilla currently has seven shows announced, including appearances at Hampton's Fall Fest, Atlanta's One Musicfest, and Chicago radio station WGCI's Big Jam.
