British indie band GIRLBAND! had a recent run in with police after the trio and their tour manager were pulled over and held at gunpoint by coppers in Switzlerland, the band's tour manager Mark Evans told NME.
Turns out, it was all Evans' fault. It happened as the band traveled eight hours to a gig in Sion, Switzerland, after performing a successful show in Paris, France.
Here's what Evans told NME:
“The police pulled me over and whilst trying to explain myself, the band (who were tired after a long drive and were getting concerned at us being pulled over) stared at the policeman who started to look on with pity at the band, only to then accuse me of human trafficking.
“According to the policemen, an old lady (whom I had earlier asked directions from at a petrol station) reported an ‘unusual gentleman with a strong accent’ carrying three distressed looking women in the back of a van heading into Switzerland.
“I was frogmarched to the police car, a gun was pulled and I politely explained the purpose of the journey. The story was then verified separately by the band and the police backed down and put their guns away.”
The fine journalist at NME also spoke to the band, who had this to say:
“As Mark always says, 'When you’re on the road, always be prepared.' Little did we know we would end up being held up with the police after an eight hour journey! We were knackered but it gave us a good old laugh once we were in the clear.”
The trio then went on to perform their gig in Sion without interruption. Oddly enough, the band made no mention of the mishap on Instagram.
