Gia Margaret announces new album 'Singing', shares single and tour dates

Chicago-based musician Gia Margaret has announced a brand new LP. Singing, the artist's fourth, is out April 24 via Jagjaguwar. The album – as evidenced by its title – sees Margaret's return to vocal songwriting, after two albums (2020's Mia Gargaret and 2023's Romantic Piano) of mostly instrumental music.

With the news comes first single "Everyone Around Me Dancing", along with a Catherine LoMedico-directed video. Watch below:

Of the new song, Margaret says:

"‘Everyone Around Me Dancing’ is a reflection on feeling isolated and the comfort found in that isolation. It is for taking a pause, for being in observation of a very scary and loud world and it is for finding stillness in our own inner worlds too."

After her debut album in 2018, Margaret lost her voice due to an illness, and wound up recording two albums that hardly had any vocals on them. Singing marks her going back to the form. "There was a time when I really didn’t know if I would sing again. So once I healed, there was a lot of internal pressure to come back strong," Margaret says. "I didn’t know who I was anymore. So it felt like beginning again, and reconnecting with these very old, old parts of myself."

Singing was recorded in London, Eau Claire, and Chicago, alongside such musical guests as Stars' Amy Millan, Kurt Vile, and Sean Carey. The record was produced with Guy Sigsworth of Frou Frou fame. "A lot of me meeting some of these collaborators (now my friends) fell completely into my lap," she says. "Almost as if they could hear something in me that I'm certain was influenced by them in the first place."

Margaret will also be heading out on tour across the US and Europe. Find those dates below.
