"Civilized" is not the adjective that most immediately comes to mind at this particular moment in world history, as Belgian-Canadian duo Ghostwoman were acutely aware in the process of making their newly announced fourth album. Described as "an allergic reaction to the times we are living in," the self-produced Welcome to the Civilized World finds Evan Uschenko and Ille van Dessel in fiery form, responding to our collective "modern sickness" in the best way they know how.
New single "Alive" was written in a flash one day in rural Belgium, with Uschenko on 12-string guitar and van Dessel behind her drumkit. "It was very easy, almost just immediately done," says van Dessel. I love the song because of the whole day behind it, its simplicity, how there’s nothing to overthink. It’s like when you get everyone lined up, you take a picture, and that’s it – it'll always stay like that. It all made sense.”
