Gay Meat announces debut LP, shares first single "More Good Angels"

Gay Meat – the pop rock project of singer/songwriter Karl Kuehn – has announced his debut full-length album. Blue Water is out April 24 via Skeletal Lightning, and with the news comes first single "More Good Angels".

Listen below:

Kuehn finds himself picking through memories and experiences from the past few years across Blue Water's 13 tracks, especially the loss of his mother after her own health issues – she suffered several seizures in 2018, and then ultimately passed in January 2021. The experience was a role reversal for the pair, and one that led to serious introspection.

"More Good Angels" is the first song Kuehn wrote after his mother was admitted to he hospital. He says of the song:

"What do you do when the person you lean on for emotional guidance is no more? I was sort of reaching out to a higher power for support and inventorying why it felt like I was on an island. My mom and I *were* that island. My parents had a messy divorce, and my mom was the youngest of 5, but I don’t know any of her siblings, or their children… and all of my grandparents have passed. We really did feel like this duo at the end of a limb on our family tree… and now we were experiencing this life altering tragedy just the two of us? I remember coming home from the hospital one day and this youtube video moved me to TEARS. This little kid Jordan talking about how everyone playing this game was an angel now… I sort of realized I had to be my own angel."

The new record was produced with Brett Scott and Alex Thompson, and features support from Jeff Rosenstock, Chris Farren, Sarah Tudzin (illuminati hotties), Lamont Brown (RNIE) and Taylor Haag.

Kuehn made his name with powerpop emo trio Museum Mouth, who released three records. He put out his debut Gay Meat EP in 2022. He also had a brief stint playing drums for Say Anything in 2018.
