Experimental indie rock band Frog Eyes are back with their first new music in almost three years. The Carey Mercer-led band has released a brand new single, "E-E-Y-O-R-E (That's Me!)" named after, of course, the beloved sad sack donkey from the Winnie the Pooh series.
Watch the Derek Janzen-directed video below:
Of the song, Mercer has this to say:
"E-E-Y-O-R-E’ has that riff that happens in the middle and end of the song, and it’s rare, and I like it ... When we play it live, our keyboard player Shyla will often look at my guitar with enthusiasm and encouragement. The song itself is a bit about loneliness, fear, isolation, the irony that we all are simultaneously bombarded with these isolating emotions, but unable to bust out of these individual spheres. Eeyore: our collective familiar, our beloved daemon."
Meanwhile, Mercer says that when "Derek laid out the concept of the video, I thought of my favourite music video ever, 'Sabrina' by Einstürzende Neubauten. In the end, in the execution, very different, but conceptually not that far off. It's economical in form, distinctive and effective, all describers that we strive for."
The last album from the Canadian band was 2022's The Bees, which was their first record post-reunion, after apparently ending the band after 2018's Violent Psalms.
Mercer promises there will be more new Frog Eyes music on the way, but for now, we at least have this new track to keep us company.
