The past few weeks, Freddie Gibbs has been releasing some spontaneous tracks and snippets – and mocked Drake's post about a "new chapter" – through social media. One of them was “Nobody Like You”, where he freestyles over an interlude from his latest album You Only Die 1nce. Now, he has dropped a fiery track titled “The Big 2”.
The title is a clear reference to J. Cole’s “big three” verse in Drake’s “First Person Shooter” and how Cole stayed out of Kendrick Lamar’s beef with the 6 God shortly after his contribution to the diss on “7 Minute Drill”.
He also apparently directs some lines to his own ex and Benny The Butcher: (“I seen my ex ho with the opps, I never get into drama (Nah) / They both got crackhead mamas, they got some shit in common”), and saved a few lines for JPEGMAFIA – the two have been clashing each other on social media for a long time – and his album sales (“My naked ass got more promo than your album”), alluding to some very private photos that previously leaked on the internet.
The Indiana rapper flows over an SWV sample which could also be seen as an indirect call-out to JPEGMAFIA, as the experimental rapper and producer sampled the R&B trio very recently on “Valentines Day Freestyle '25”.
