Freddie Gibbs says rappers are using ChatGPT to write lyrics

The use of artificial intelligence in music, and society as a whole, is a highly-contested debate, and, with artists like Will.I.Am and others advocating for the technology's inclusion into the artistic process, and the debate isn't ending any time soon.

Gary, Indiana-based emcee Freddie Gibbs is the latest to voice his opinion, blasting the technology for its lack of heart. Speaking on The Ryen Russillo Podcast, Gibbs said he has a hard time believing rappers refrain from using artificial bars generated by AI.

"Look at AI rap now man," Gibbs said, translation via Complex. "I don't even believe nobody that write [...] I don't even believe if you even really make it anymore because I done been in studios with motherfuckers and motherfuckers is ChatGPTin' the shit. And I'm like, ‘What in the fuck?' Like damn, how long am I gonna be able to do this shit? 'Cause I'm actually making fresh shit."

He continued, "How long am I going to be able to do it when there's motherfuckers in the studio typing into a computer to get their music [...] We in a lazy day and age, man. Heart is dying and you got to ask a computer to write your lyrics, shit is wack."

Meanwhile, Gibbs released his sixth studio album, Alfredo 2, last month via ESGN and ALC. His third studio collaboration with producer The Alchemist, the album features guest appearances by Anderson .Paak, Larry June, and JID.

Beginning next month, the duo will embark on a US tour to support the album. Dubbed Alfredo: The Tour, Gangsta Gibbs and Al will perform in more than 20 cities across the country beginning Sept. 20 in Philly before rounding out Nov. 9 in San Francisco.
